Classical Arabic dictionaries present words alphabetically by triliteral root, giving usage examples most often taken from the Qur'an, hadith, and ancient poetry. This classification by roots was taken up by the authors of French Arabic dictionaries; however other authors, like Jabbour Abdel-Nour (Beirut, 1983) followed an alphabetical classification of words, identical to that followed in the dictionaries of the Latin and Germanic languages, and easier to use than that of the roots.
