Literature and poetry
Arab literature emerged in the 6th century. Earlier testimonies constitute only fragments of written language. The Quran in the 7th century has had the most lasting influence on Arab culture and its literature. Pre-Islamic Arab poetry draws on the world around it. The poetry of the Islamic period highlights the values of Islam. It is sometimes difficult to make a good translation allowing to convey the beauty of the meaning and the musicality of the Arabic verses.
