Tafsir (Exegesis)
Tafsîr (Arabic: تَفْسِير tafsîr, "interpretation") is the Arabic term for an exegesis of the Koran. The author of a tafsir is a moufassir (Arabic: مفسر, mufassir, plural: مفسرون, mufassirûn). This is more of a commentary on the simple meaning of the verses. It requires from its author a great erudition in oral tradition (hadith) but also a perfect mastery of the Arabic language and its subtleties and of other Islamic religious sciences. Among the most famous tafsîr: Tafsîr At-Tabarî, Tafsîr Al-Qurtubî, Tafsîr Ibn Kathîr and Tafsîr Al-Jalalayn.
